Haren has the undesirable title of the ugliest municipality in Belgium. But in every ugliness, there is also beauty to be discovered. Did you know that the national airport used to be located here before it moved to Zaventem? Haren also got a new mega-prison, which led to much local protest. That protest group was so angry that they advocated for Haren's independence from Brussels. But the prison was built anyway.
