Villa Empain

The Villa Empain was designed by the Swiss architect Polak, at the request of the businessman and patron Louis Empain (1908 - 1976). It is a masterpiece of Art Deco.

The young Baron Empain did not live long in his house. In 1937, he donated it to the Belgian state, intending to make it a museum for Decorative Arts. The Villa Empain was confiscated by the Gestapo in 1943 and had many different uses and inhabitants after the war, such as the Russian embassy and Radio-Television-Luxembourg. In 1990, the villa was decommissioned and neglected. It was only from 2007 that the house became a classified monument and a center for cultural and artistic dialogue between Western and Eastern cultures. Several exhibitions are organized there.

The Villa Empain is open every day from 10 am to 6:30 pm, except on Mondays.
