The Uitkerkse Polder reserve was established in 1991. In an area of approximately 1400 hectares, a total of 275 hectares of nature reserve have been acquired so far. All the lands have been purchased with the aim of developing a pasture reserve with a focus on meadow birds and moist, often saline grassland vegetation.
The Groenwaecke is the visitor center of the Uitkerkse Polder nature reserve.
