Since the 1930s, the idea of turning the open space between Kerkstraat, Normandlaan, and Duinenweg into a park has existed. It was finally realized in 1991.
There were enough ideas for this piece of land in the middle of the tourist zone, such as a new market square, subdividing into luxury villas, parking spaces, a nursing home,... but no consensus was ever reached.
Ultimately, in 1989, the parking lot next to the park was constructed. The park itself opened around Easter 1991 but never had an official opening ceremony due to internal political disputes.
The municipal park is open daily from 9:00 AM until sunset.
