The Zandberg (approx. 1.5 ha) in the north of Heusden is a relict of a drifting dune complex, which developed when the rivers also formed their permanent course. These incisions in the landscape released large amounts of sprayable sand. This sand was carried along with the river water and deposited further. This created large sandbanks near the riverbeds. The (north) westerly winds thus caused drifting sand dunes along the Scheldt. The highest part is bare, but lower parts consist of grassland. The northern parts consist of deciduous forest.
On these lands, agriculture was particularly difficult. The small farms of the past are all gone. The land is mainly occupied for grassland and forests. Especially horses, especially from private individuals, now adorn the landscape. On the Zandberg you will find typical vegetation, which you can also find in dunes.
The Zandberg, like the whole of Heusden, is very popular as a residential area. In this landscape of barren grasslands, open fields and forests, many residential homes have now been built.
