In 1926, the Drieschouwen-Moerbeke tram line, which had already been opened for beet transport in 1915, was also opened to passenger transport. On 15 May 1926, an extra tram full of inspectors, commissioners, mayors and deputies left Terneuzen for Moerbeke at the invitation of Count M. Lippens. In Drieschouwen, the office and workshop were visited and then this 'festive' tram drove through the gate of honour at the border crossing at Rode Sluis. The national anthem and the Brabançonne sounded this day, a wreath was laid at the memorial for the fallen fighters in Moerbeke and lunch was served at the castle of the Lippens family. As early as 1934, passenger transport was discontinued and freight transport, which served almost exclusively as a supply line for the sugar factory in Moerbeke, was stopped in December 1949 and the line was dismantled. The Belgian section of the line was owned by the Belgian local railways, but the operation was leased to the ZVTM. ( Zeeuwsch- Vlaamsche Tramweg Maatschappij). Behind the row of people on the right, you will see border post 294.
