The Sauvenière source and the Groesbeek source are only a few meters apart in the same building.
This is the oldest and most visited source at the time . This source was already known in the Middle Ages and was then discovered by Sint-Remaclus. This saint is said to have put a sandal print in a stone at the well. In the Middle Ages, the spring was credited with fertile properties, the place where newlyweds could have sterility remedied by drinking the water. Traditionally, women who wanted to bear a child during the year had to drink the water from the Sauvenière , placing their feet in the saint's footprint.
In 1651 , Baron de Groesbeek built a small structure to protect the second well on this location, the Groesbeekbron. The Sauvenière source was almost displaced by the Groesbeek source after an earthquake in 1692 , but recovered.
Next to the springs was the Salamanque Chapel . In the 18th century it was replaced by a building built in Louis XIV style.
