The Blue Gate is the only remaining of seven entrance gates around the castle grounds of Ooidonk. It is also called "Porta arboreti" .
The gate dates from around 1595 but the current structure is said to date from around 1864 . The attic floor of the entrance gate used to serve as a pigeon tower.
Keeping pigeons used to be a privilege. Pigeons ate the grain, so their numbers were limited. Only the well-to-do citizen was given the right to keep pigeons. The dovecotes of yesteryear are real buildings.
