Keizersberg walk in Leuven

The walk starts and returns to the train station of Leuven, which is located to the east of the city.
The first third of the walk runs along the Leuven brewery, once called Artois but has become AB Inbev due to various mergers.

Halfway through the walk, there is the challenging ascent (30 m higher) and then the very steep descent to and from the Keizersberg Abbey. The rest of the walk is mostly flat (see the altitude graph).
The effort of climbing Keizersberg will be rewarded with a beautiful view over the entire city of Leuven.
This is where once stood the fortress of the counts of Leuven and later the dukes of Brabant.
At that time known as Boelenberg or also Borgberch, but its final name was given by Emperor Charles V who also stayed there at one time. Only parts of the wall surrounding the complex still date from that time.

Back down, one first comes to the Saint Gertrude Abbey and a bit further to the Saint Peter's Church and nearby the city hall of Leuven, all of which can be visited.
Finally, the walk goes along the very famous shopping streets, the straight Bontgenotenlaan or possibly parallel along the second shopping street Diestsestraat, back to the station of Leuven.
