Buzenol

A little south of Buzenol is a hill that dominates its deeply dug valley: the Montauban. This hill was already inhabited in Neolithic and is home to a remarkable archaeological site with well-preserved Iron Age ramparts. In the fourth century the Romans fortified it to protect themselves from the Germans. The central rampart of forty large shaped stones has several magnificent reliefs, including the Grim Reaper of Trevires (the first agricultural machine, already described in the first century by Pliny the Elder).
In addition: remains of a dungeon from the late Middle Ages (according to the legend of the four Aymon sons). Several information panels (high time to replace them). Unlimited access.

DISTANCE
About 5 km, but walking from curiosity to curiosity in the archaeological park of Montauban, you easily accumulate the kilometers.

TYPE OF ROAD
From the start at the foot of Montauban you follow the normal bituminé roads. After you take a vigorous forest path, which leads from the aforementioned communication route to the archaeological park. The park abounds in small paths and dirt paths that wind from one curiosity to another. The forest roads in Buzenol are partially earthen, with base coating and with normal pavement. So you don't have to complain about lack of diversity. Under no circumstances can you take strollers or wheelchairs.

PARKING
In the immediate vicinity of the charming, well-kept church – cream, with a slate roof, with an interesting interior – you are sure to find a parking space, although the locals do not appreciate it that you store the car on their bottom in front of the house. But they usually give their consent after a kind request, especially if you explain to them that it's only for a few hours.
