The Volderveldhoeve Tour Drive

The Voldersveldhoeve on Kruisstraat in Kerkhove (Avelgem) was originally a fortified site surrounded by a moat, which is now half-filled. The farm was the center of the eponymous lordship, which depended on the Feudal Court of Dendermonde. In the oldest depiction of 't Voldersveld, in Sanderus' Flandria Illustrata (1641), the gatehouse and the residential house are clearly visible. On the Ferraris map (1770-1778), the site is referred to as 'Chateau Voldersvelt'. The Atlas of Neighboring Paths (ca. 1843) shows a walled farm with free-standing components, consisting of a residential house, a barn, two small stables, and a gate. The farmhouse dates from the late 16th century and consists of two parallel structures under a gable roof. The original gabled wings have disappeared. The rear façade is marked by a lower staircase tower. To the north of the farmhouse is a paved driveway with a monumental, brick entrance gate. The arched passageway is accentuated by the alternating use of brick and natural stone. The farmhouse and the gatehouse were protected as a monument in 1985. The surroundings of the farm form a protected village landscape.
