Flemish Mountains Route, Stage 19-N: from Wortegem to Oudenaarde

This stage of the Flemish Mountains Route (North) takes you further along the northern flank of the Flemish Ardennes: a hilly landscape with several peaks, from which you get wonderful views over the actual Flemish Ardennes ridge time and again. At one point, the expansive Flemish Plain is also visible, and on a clear day even the towers of Ghent. After Ooike, you slowly descend down the Schelde slopes, until you reach the large Donkmeer and the river. Many terraces await you in the beautiful city center of Oudenaarde.

THE FLEMISH MOUNTAINS ROUTE, 600 KM OF HIKING FROM CALAIS TO COLOGNE

As many peaks as possible, as much unpaved as possible, as car-free as possible… this is the Flemish Mountains Route in a nutshell. This long-distance hike for lovers of beautiful nature and breathtaking panoramas touches all the peaks of the Flemish hill chain. It will be about 600 km long and consist of approximately 50 daily stages of 15 to 20 km each. The Flemish Mountains Route leads over the green hills of Artesien, through the French and West Flemish hilly area, over the Flemish Ardennes, through Pajottenland and the Zoniën region, the Hageland, the Limburg mining region, the Kempen plateau, Voeren and the South Limburg hilly area, the Three Countries Corner, and the mighty Hertogenwald.
