The Old Barbierbeek at the Kruibeekse creek.

We start at the cemetery of Bazel and reach the largest floodplain of Flanders along the Scheldt via the 9.35 m high ring dike, which protects the inhabited areas from flooding during spring tide and northwesterly storms on the North Sea.

Along Kemphoekstraat we walk to the Polder and beyond the Kreeklinde we take the left Schoutheetepad that ends 700 m further at the Gustjepluimpad which we follow to the right until we reach the Scheldt. On the right side of the Gustjepluimpad, watch for beaver tracks, i.e. gnawed willows by the beavers. At the Heerbeek lock on the towpath by the Scheldt, a limited amount of Scheldt water flows in and out of the creek area with the rhythm of the tides, significantly increasing the biodiversity of plants and living organisms. This is also important for an increasing fish population due to the new spawning grounds that are created. Along the old dike, the dike of Tilleke Tang, we are guided through a green tunnel in many places. If we respect the silence during this stretch, the chances of spotting roe deer are high. Beaver tracks can also be observed there. The Tilleketangpad can be regarded as one of the jewels of the large Polder area of Kruibeke. It is only accessible to walkers and difficult for child buggies due to the grass in summer and clay-mud in wet weather.
