The Kwarekken in Westerlo is a nature reserve located in the valley of the Grote Nete. Parking can be found at the intersection of Jagersweg and Beeltjensdreef or at the sports hall De Beeltjens. The start can be found in the forest by the sand hill of the Beeltjens. We head north, and after about 500 meters we arrive at De Ster. A junction where several roads converge. Count for yourself how many! We then walk towards the Hollandse dreef. After this dreef, we encounter several alternating sections of quiet roads and bushes that take us past Zoerle Parwijs. After Zoerle Parwijs, we head back towards the nature reserve of the Kwarekken. Through the hay fields, we re-enter the Kwarekken where you'll find an ideal picnic spot. The walk here is about 5 km long. We cross a small bridge and then meander through the forest along a stream. The passage is difficult for strollers. These are all very small winding paths with, depending on the weather, a muddy surface. Eventually, we come out at the Grote Nete. We follow this for about 500 meters. We go along the Karel Wernerdreef, which we follow all the way to the bridge over the Asberg. Once we cross this bridge, we come back to the sand hill of the Beeltjens.
