Go to the Domein Pietersheim car park on the Neerhagenweg in Lanaken.

Soak up the past in Pietersheim's newly renovated moated castle, which belonged to the de Merode family until 1971.

The 12th century moated castle is the silent witness to the glorious and turbulent battles of the lords of Pietersheim. From the medieval castle you can still see the ring-shaped walls and the gate tower. The 16th century chapel room has also been preserved and completely renovated. Via a floating walkway (also accessible to people with disabilities), you can access all the hidden places of the castle as a visitor.

As a welcome, every visitor can enjoy a beautiful view of the castle square and the surrounding park on the new platform in the gatehouse. In the large "standing observation box" next to the chapel, visitors can see the complete history of the castle in a film. Based on a 3D animated film with historical images, the castle surrounded by moats rises in all its glory. In the observation box are some archaeological discoveries on display that testify to the wealth that once reigned here.

Young visitors can have fun through various interactive games. It ends with a visit to the shop where children and adults can buy their own souvenir. How about your own knight's helmet or sword? The comic strip "Jan van Pietersheim" is certainly a bargain as a lasting souvenir of the castle.
