Preferably, they retreat into dark cavities and crevices where it is warm and dry. Distribution cabinets for telephony and internet are a sought-after place. The ants leave a thin acid trail that is meant to protect them from enemies. However, that acid also affects the cables in the distribution box and causes short circuits.
