Buttlar is a municipality in the Wartburgkreis district of Thuringia. The fulfilling municipality for Buttlar is the town of Geisa.
Buttlar is located in the far west of Thuringia at an elevation of 260 meters above sea level in the Ulster Valley near the border with Hesse in the Thuringian Rhön. To the west rises the Standorfsberg. To the east lies the 425 meter high Michelsberg, and to the south the valley of the Bermbach runs through the villages of Bermbach and Mieswarz.
