Schwöbber Castle

From around 1510 to 1919, the Schwöbber estate belonged to the noble Lower Saxony family of the Münchhausen, from which the baron came. In 1510, Stacius von Münchhausen, holder of the pledge of the castle of Aerzen, and his brothers were appointed feudal lords of the church of St. Boniface in Hamelin with three Meierhöfe in Schwöbber. Stacius' fourth son, Hilmar von Münchhausen, a Spanish royal colonel in the service of Philip II, became one of the wealthiest men of his time as a mercenary leader. He and his sons, Statius and Hilmar, were among the great builders of the Weser renaissance; in addition to Schwöbber, they built the castles of Leitzkau, Bevern and Wendlinghausen, among others.
