The Star Bridge or Castle Bridge in Weimar is the most important and oldest historical bridge structure that has remained in Weimar. It is also considered the architecturally most significant bridge structure over the Ilm, at least in the Weimar urban area.
The 62-meter-long and 7-meter-wide bridge was built between 1651 and 1654 by the Thuringian master builder Johann Moritz Richter the Elder as part of the reconstruction of the city palace, the so-called "Wilhelmsburg," which finally burned down in 1774 except for a few remnants. It was intended to connect the city palace with the hunting grounds alongside an avenue, the present-day Leibnizallee.
