Water transfer Hamm

The water transfer in Hamm is a hydraulic engineering facility at the Hamm lock of the Datteln-Hamm Canal. It serves to regulate the water of the West German canal network and the Lippe.
The West German canal network of Wesel-Datteln, Rhein-Herne, Dortmund-Ems, and Datteln-Hamm Canal is supplied with water through the summit retention between the canal levels of Datteln, Herne, Münster, and Hamm and is maintained at a consistent level in the individual canal sections. Although they are not flowing bodies of water, approximately 550 million cubic meters of water are transported annually towards the Rhine, Ruhr, and Ems or lost to the canal network in other ways. This loss is compensated for by the inflow from the Lippe at the water transfer.
