Wildshausen Manor

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1310. Wilhelm I von Ardey sold his lordship to Count Ludwig von Arnsberg in that year. Later, the Wildshausen moated castle was built on the property. After the death of Anna of Cleves, the wife of Godfrey IV and last Countess of Arnsberg, the property fell to Archbishop Frederick III of Cologne. Subsequently, the Wildshausen estate was built to supply the moated castle, which was run by various feudal lords and nobles. Under Johann von Padberg, the estate was elevated to a knight's seat in 1501. The entrepreneur Josef Cosack acquired the property from Gottlieb von der Becke zu Hemer in 1888 for 440,000 Reichsmarks. The manor then remained in the family to this day.
