Pennigbüttel Moor

The Pennigbütteler Moor is a former nature conservation area east of the village of Pennigbüttel in the city of Osterholz-Scharmbeck in the district of Osterholz.

The former nature conservation area covers around 185 hectares and was placed under protection on November 2, 1985, by the Lüneburg District Government. It bore the statistical designation "NSG LÜ 129". The purpose of the protection was the "preservation and development of moor-type flora and fauna, especially several species of birds, amphibians, and reptiles adapted to the raised bog habitat, in certain areas the promotion of a growing raised bog layer; in the marginal areas, the moor birch forest should be preserved." The area merged into the nature conservation area "Hammeniederung," designated on April 20, 2017, on October 3, 2019.
