Haus Esselt is a former manor in Drevenack, a district in the far north of the Lower Rhine municipality of Hünxe. First mentioned in a document in the 14th century, Haus Esselt was an allod of the von der Capellen family for a long time. She sold it at the beginning of the 18th century to Christoph von Loeben, who probably had the current manor house of the estate built. After that, it experienced changing owners, mostly nobles from the surrounding area or officers stationed in Wesel. From 1958 it served as a retreat for the painter and graphic artist Otto Pankok, who spent the last years of his life there. Since 1968, the Otto Pankok Museum has been set up in the artist's former studio, showing charcoal drawings, woodcuts, etchings and sculptures by him.
Haus Esselt is now the headquarters of the Otto Pankok Foundation and the Otto Pankok Society. The manor house and the farm buildings have been protected as architectural monuments since 1985. The property is designated as a ground monument. [1] Guided tours of the museum, the manor house and the gardens are possible.
