Lengerich: monument Treaty of Westphalia

For five years the Peace Treaty of Westphalia (1648) was negotiated in two cities: Osnabrück and Münster. Deputies met each other there, but also alongside the route between the two cities. Half-way the village Lengerich was an important meetingpoint. In 1645 the deputies of the Holy Roman Empire decided here that all the free cities and classes of the empire should participate in the negotiations: the 'Lengericher Conclusum'. Near the church where the resolution was formed a monument is dedicated to this event. It is made by the Osnabrücker artist Volker Johannes Trieb.
