The bell of Geichlingen tells its story

My story

In 1922 I began my service in the Catholic Church of St. Laurentius in Geichlingen. In the photos, the church with the old tower can be seen, which unfortunately was destroyed in the war. I am cast from steel and weigh 1500 kg.

For more than forty years I called believers to worship.

In October 1965 I was replaced by 3 new bronze bells, which I briefly enjoyed presenting. My successors are dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God, as well as to Laurentius and Valentine, the two patron saints of the church.

The new bells come from the bell foundry Marck und Sohn Brockscheid and are tuned to a-c-d.

My further journey took me to Brockscheid, where I would likely be melted down. But fate had other plans. The company Marck donated me to the youth hostel in Daun. I got a spot next to the entrance on August 29, 1967, where I was admired for many years.

In the spring of 2019, Mrs. Christine Gliedner, born Hamper, discovered me during a visit to Daun. Johann Hamper made it possible for me to return to Geichlingen through a donation to the youth hostel in Daun, allowing me to celebrate my 100th birthday there.

Erwin Kaufmann, Manfred Thiel, and Arnold Theis made the pedestal, and I was able to take my honorary place on May 19, 2022.
