The most striking point on this beautiful and varied circular hiking trail on pleasant paths and wide views is the shining "White Rock" in the Selbitz valley at the mouth of the Grießbach stream into the Selbitz, which is visible from afar and has been cleared by the Bund Naturschutz.
We start at the railroad station and walk along the footpath between Selbitz and the road to the Froschgrüner Brücke bridge and on to the start of Froschgrüner Park. We walk straight ahead to the right of the railroad line and along the edge of the park, later through a narrow underpass to the left. Between the abandoned grinding mill and the railroad track, our hiking trail continues down the valley to Ober- und Mittelklingensporn.
The grinding mill was used to grind mining tools. After the decline of mining, it became a cutting and grinding mill and later a residential building. Today, only remnants of the former mill remain. The Selbitz, a left tributary of the Saale, rises on the eastern slope of the 698 m high Reusenberg near Wüstenselbitz and flows into the (Saxon) Saale at Blankenstein after a 36.6 km course and a gradient of 236 m. Its "showpiece" is the approximately 4 km long, wildly romantic Höllental valley. Important left tributaries are Eierbach, Goldbach, Grönbach, Culmitz, Froschbach, Stebenbach, Lohbach and Thüringische Muschwitz. Important right tributaries are Enziusbach, Edlendorfer Bach, Rauschenbach, Rothenbach, Siegelbach, Griesbach and Issigbach.
We cross the railroad track, turn left and continue downhill along the edge of the Selbitz valley to Griesbachgrund and the "White Rock". The rock itself can be reached via a small path shortly after the junction. Just before the rock formation, we turn right at the upper edge of the Grießbach valley and follow a comfortable path along the edge of the forest and through open fields up the beautiful valley to Grießbach.
House no. 6, a former hammer mill, has been preserved to this day as a four-sided farm. According to Alexander von Humboldt, the long passage of the Friedensgrube ends here, which leads from Lichtenberg, from the Thuringian Muschwitz, under the Höllental and to here. It was dug for copper and iron.
We follow the local road in a wide right-hand bend through the hamlet to the forest and continue through the forest on the old connecting path to Froschgrün, past the well-known park and on to the train station, which also offers a place to stop for refreshments.
