The city's location at a sufficient distance from the surrounding market towns resulted in a rapid development in the years after 1860, when many merchants and craftsmen settled here. Although the railway never reached Fuglebjerg, the town in many ways resembles a station town.

The bust of Frederik VII in the square and the memorial stone for member of Parliament Martin Hansen at Sorøvej tell that the town has also been the center for an electoral district.

The water tower. In 1908, a bore was established from which the water was pumped up with a pump driven by a windmill. The water tower was not built until 1934. Long before that, they had begun pumping water from a bore at Lundevej, where the current waterworks is located. After just a few decades of use, the water tower became unnecessary when the waterworks was equipped with a hydro pump.

Fuglebjerg Church was built in the Middle Ages and consists of a Romanesque nave and a late Gothic porch to the north. The altarpiece is a catechism board in High Renaissance style from the late 16th century. The pulpit is in late Renaissance style and dates from around 1632. The chalice is made of Næstved trial silver. It was donated by Erich Herlufsøn and bears his coat of arms and the year 1632. The tower was originally built in Gothic style but was rebuilt in 1838 and in more recent times almost completely reconstructed. The red brick extension is from 1888.

Martin Hansen's Memorial Stone. From 1849 until 1918, Fuglebjerg was the center for Sorø County's 5th electoral district. From 1910, the leftist Martin Hansen, a smallholder at Skafterup Mark, represented the district in Parliament. After the dissolution of the district, he was elected for the Sorø district. He was a member of Parliament until his death in 1927.

HAKA Machine Factory was in 1960 one of the region's major workplaces. Manufacturer Hans Hougaard started after World War II in a small extension as an entrepreneur. He developed one of the most robust washing machines of the time, which made the name HAKA and Fuglebjerg known throughout the country. Throughout the 1960s, the company expanded and employed around 100 people. It was not until the 1970s that the company was sold to an Italian firm, and a few years later, this industrial adventure in Fuglebjerg came to an end.

The old post office. Fuglebjerg has had a post office since 1861. The first postmaster was also the town's pharmacist. The post office was first located at Torvet 2, later moved to Sorøvej 9, but in 1913 this grand post office was built.

The old pharmacy. Fuglebjerg's first pharmacy was located in the building at Torvet 2 along with the post office. The pharmacy was established there in 1857, but in 1863, the building at Indre Krummerupvej 1 was erected and taken into use as a pharmacy. In 2007, a new pharmacy on Byagervej was inaugurated.
