Glacier route

The route starts and ends at the Assembly and Culture House in Skelhøje and is marked with an orange arrow as a Hærvejsperle.

The glacier route runs down in and along the tunnel valley that during the last Ice Age contained the flow of meltwater that deposited the sediments that have formed Karup Hedeslette. The glacier gate was located where Skelhøje is today. The route is a thematic route about the formation of the landscape during and after the last Ice Age.

The route is quite hilly and primarily runs on footpaths through a beautiful and varied landscape with several stunning views along the way. The route also goes through enclosures where horses and cows help maintain the nature. This means that, for example, in May you can experience blooming orchids along the route.

There is parking available and a toilet in Skelhøje as well as at Dollerup Bathing Area. In Skelhøje there is also a picnic house and opportunities to find water and shop.

The glacier route is a Hærvejsperle and internationally certified as a Leading Quality Trail. The route is also part of Denmark's Nature Trails – a national network of well-marked hiking routes that guide scenic experiences.
