Mirador de la Marina Alta - Denia

The Mirador de la Marina Alta is located on top of the Cap de Sant Antonio .

The viewpoint is named after the Marina Alta , the coastal and mountainous comarque (region) in the province of Alicante that includes Dénia and Jávea.

On the Dénia side (where the Cova Tallada and the Torre del Gerro are located), the limestone cliffs plunge vertically dozens of meters down into the sea.

On top of the cape lies a surprisingly flat and wooded plateau (La Plana) . This is where you will find the historic windmills , the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles , the picnic areas , and the lighthouse .

The cape is entirely part of the Montgó Natural Park , and the surrounding underwater area has been declared a Strict Marine Reserve ( Reserva Marina del Cabo de San Antonio ). As a result, the flora and fauna on land and underwater are excellently protected, making it a paradise for divers, snorkelers, and hikers.

From the various viewpoints on the cape (such as at the lighthouse or the miradors), on a clear day—and certainly on windless days—you can see the silhouette of the island of Ibiza lying on the horizon across the open sea in the distance.

Long before Christian hermits or windmills appeared on the plateau, this cape already held a sacred status in antiquity . There are archaeological indications and historical sources suggesting that in Roman times (or even in preceding Iberian periods) , a temple or sanctuary stood on the cape dedicated to the goddess of love and seafaring (Venus or Aphrodite). Seafarers made offerings here for a safe crossing to the Balearic Islands.
