Córdoba city walk (city guide): the warmest city in Europe

Córdoba in Andalusia is the warmest city in Europe. It was once (10th century) the second largest city in the world.

As a result of the extensive Spanish colonization, more than 1000 places on the American continent bear the name Córdoba.

At the start of the walk we quickly become acquainted with the Guadalquivir with its Roman bridge Puente Romano and the Torre de la Calahora.

Once over the bridge we arrive at the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos , which is more than worth a visit.

Via the royal horse stables and the San Basilio district, known from los Amigos de los Patios Cordobés and the Parque de Mayores, we arrive at the old Roman walls of the city with the Puerta de Almodóvar.

Chapels, churches and monuments alternate until we reach the Mezquita Catedral, an imposing structure and one of the most visited monuments in Spain. Here are also a number of special houses and city palaces.

Past a few monasteries we arrive at the Museo Arqueológico de Córdoba, the most important archaeological museum in Spain. We pass some churches and squares and city palaces and walk through the Jardines de la Victoria city park to the Palacio de la Merced , once a convent.

It is impossible to keep track of the number of churches and monasteries we pass; the old oil factory then stands out again because of the remaining chimney. We learn that bullfighting is also very important for the inhabitants of Córdoba, and that the archangel Saint-Raphael can be seen everywhere.

We pass the old Roman temple Templo Romano de Córdoba and the Plaza de la Corredera.

The Plaza del Potro concludes the city visit.
