Verchocq is a municipality in the French department of Pas-de-Calais and has 589 inhabitants. The place is part of the Montreuil arrondissement. The village is located in French Flanders and bears the Flemish name Everkok. The earliest mention is from the year 1177 as Evercoc. The current name is a French phonetic imitation of that. The spelling of the village name has varied over the centuries. Chronologically, it was successively called: Evercoc, Vrecoch, Verchoc, Vercock, Verchok, Viéchocq, Viéchoq, Vréchoc, Vréhocq, Vrechocq, Wercohc, Le Vréchoc, Vercho. After this, it received and retained its current name and spelling.
