Foix is a commune in the Ariège department in the Midi-Pyrénées region in south-western France, with a population of about 9,000. It is part of the Arrondissement of Foix. Foix railway station is located in the municipality.
Until the French Revolution, Foix was the center of the county of Foix, later an independent French province, the Pays de Foix, which roughly corresponded to the department of the Ariège. From the 13th century, the lords of Foix also ruled Béarn and settled there.
