It was owned by the Kergariou family from the 17th to the 20th century. The spelling is also Coëtilliau in the Middle Ages. Benjamin Jollivet, the author of a work on Côtes-d'Armor, wrote in 1859: “Coatilliau is a modern château belonging to Mr. de Kergariou, one of the descendants of Alexandre de Kergariou, who, in 1586, was named captain-governor of the town and château of Morlaix. This residence has a very beautiful park. In front, one notices two deep moats where wild boars were once kept.”
