Only the square and pointed towers survived the destruction of the abbey of Saint-Winoc , in their capacity as a navigational marker. Ships entering the Dunkirk Canal were guided in a safe direction by the two towers of Bergues.
This tower is located on the heights of Bergues and is the only remnant of the Saint-Winoc Abbey which was destroyed during the Revolution. The tower was originally built at the crossing of the transept of the church. The base is Romanesque, while the upper floor is Gothic . The abbey is considered the first Gothic building in the region.
