The farmers have reshaped the hillsides in terraces over centuries on Sifnos. Only the last decades, the maintenace of these terraces have been declining, because of another, more fruitful crop to harvest on the island: tourism. My rough estimate is that there are more than 500 km of terrace walls on the island. These terraces hold more than 250 000 m**3 (cubic meters) of rocks which have been re-positioned by the farmers of Sifnos to create this landscape. This is comparable with the volume of a small-size Egyptian pyramid.
