To the faded glory of Lido di Venezia hangs a feeling of melancholy, the acceptance of finitude. Elderly people in the market greet each other, they chat. But they know: this is a place to fade away. What surprises me, so close to the city that is suffocated by mass tourism: the fishing villages on Lido di Venezia are villages where real fishermen live. Elderly men lean on their bicycles watching how small boats are being repaired in a sound hurricane of music and grinding wheels. Seagulls follow like splashes of paint the boats sailing across the lagoon.
