Most of the sessions of the Council of Trent (mid 16th century) took place in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore. Queen Christina, in November 1655 visiting the city after her conversion to the Roman-Chatholic faith, went overthere to see the painting of this main event of the counter-reformation.
