The river area includes the river basins of the Rhine, Meuse, Waal, IJssel, and the Vecht. On the European continent, there are few places where as much water flows as in this area. With that water comes a lot of material that is dissolved in it. At the end of the last ice ages, which also carried masses of meltwater material, you got here a beautiful example of braided rivers that sought their way through their own deposits. You can still see remnants of this braiding pattern along the Meuse near Cuyk.
