Hunebed G1 is located southwest of Noordlaren in the Dutch province of Groningen.
The dolmen is located on a hill in a forest, which can be reached via a dirt road from Noordlaren. The dolmen is the northernmost of the dolmens still located on the original site.
Until 1982, this was also the only surviving dolmen in the province of Groningen. In that year, during excavations near Heveskes Monastery, the even more northerly dolmen G5 was found. This last dolmen is no longer in its original place, but is exhibited in the Sea Aquarium in Delfzijl. The dolmens G2, G3 and G4 were once located near Glimmen, but have disappeared. More than one kilometre southeast of this dolmen are the two dolmens D3 and D4 of Midlaren. The dolmen G1 was originally larger. Two capstones remain, one of which is remarkably large.
The dolmen is very nicely situated. The atmosphere can sometimes even feel idyllic in autumn or winter.
I'm not a woolly type, but I still felt something of magic when I stood in this place. The trees all around create a certain atmosphere.
