The Rokade is located at the northern entrance to the Hoornse Meer district. The building, which was designed by the Amsterdam architectural firm Arons & Gelauff, is one of the ten tallest buildings in Groningen.De with a height of 21 floors and a height of 63 metres. Rokade was one of the first visible results of the 2003 manifestation De Intense Stad, in which the then administration of the municipality of Groningen demonstrated its aim to keep the city "compact" by densifying the neighborhoods immediately around the city center. This was considered necessary in order to be able to maintain the existing level of facilities despite a declining average occupancy rate.
