Waterline Path

The Waterliniepad is a regional path with a length of 145 kilometers from Weesp to Werkendam, developed by Wandelnet in collaboration with the New Dutch Waterline Committee. (Originally as Theme Trail 2.) The route is marked in both directions with the yellow-red signs that are common on regional paths. It is described in a guidebook (the description in the north-south direction is "complete"; the description in the south-north direction is "in telegram style").
The route follows the course of the New Dutch Waterline as much as possible. The guidebook describes the various fortifications and other works that the hiker encounters along the way. The route runs through four provinces: Noord-Holland, Utrecht, Gelderland and Noord-Brabant.
The route runs from Weesp via the Naardermeer to Naarden, via Loenen aan de Vecht, Breukelen to Utrecht and goes east around Utrecht via the forts Blauwkapel and Voordorp. The route goes past Nieuwegein to Culemborg, crosses the Lek and goes past Leerdam and Asperen to Vuren. At Gorinchem the Waal is crossed and via Sleeuwijk Werkendam is reached.
The route has connections to public transport with the train stations (at or a short distance from the route) in Weesp, Naarden-Bussum, Breukelen, Utrecht-Overvecht, Utrecht-Lunetten, Culemborg, Leerdam and Gorinchem, and bus connections in the other towns.
