Maria Chapel OLV in 't Zand

The hamlet of Tiggeltseberg built a Mary chapel as thanks for remaining safe during World War II.
This happened not far from the place where two bombers crashed during World War II (1940 and 1944) at the corner of Tiggeltsebergstraat - Kapelstraat.
On November 3, 1946, the chapel was consecrated by Pastor Verbunt.
The chapel was named Our Lady in 't Zand, a name likely due to the fact that the chapel was built on sandy ground. Initially, the hamlet of Ettenseweg wanted to build a chapel together with the hamlet of Tiggeltseberg. But when an agreement could not be reached about the location, Nilleke de Bruijn offered a piece of land to build a chapel herself. Toon Martens raised 750 guilders from the then 15-family hamlet.
The stones of the chapel come from the Wernhoutsburg monastery, which was destroyed during the war.
