Municipal Sports Park Hilversum

The Municipal Sports Park Hilversum is a sports park in the Dutch town of Hilversum. The sports park is bordered to the north and east by the 'Arena', to the south by the 'Diependaalselaan', and to the west by the Hilversum - Lunetten railway. In 1920, a new sports park was constructed to meet the need for a modern sports park in the city of Hilversum. The sports park was equipped with a football field with an athletic track and a separate horse racing track. The facilities were used for some events at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. The main grandstand is a design by Willem Dudok, characterized by the Amsterdam School. Since 1991, this grandstand has been designated as a national monument. Since its construction in 1920, there have been various modifications to the sports park. The stands used for professional football matches have since been demolished, while the main grandstand underwent a complete renovation in 2010. The trotting track was closed in 1989 and later demolished for residential and office construction. Nowadays, the sports park is only used by the Gooise Athletic Club, the football field has been removed and adapted for athletics.
