When you think of Drenthe, you think of vast heathlands and quiet forests. This TT route, for example, takes you over the Hondsrug, which is one of the higher regions of Drenthe. You ride through forests and heathlands and through impressive beech avenues. Surprisingly, you pass through one of the oldest forests in the Netherlands right in the middle of Assen! The Asserbos contains a piece of the forests that once covered Drenthe. The rest was transformed into a star forest in the 18th century.
