The hill called Khao Phrabat, where this temple was built on top is located near the Yom River. The major historical architecture of this temple is the main Sri Lankan-style chedi, a vihara building, and a mandapa, all of which were built from laterite blocks. The text in the Stone Inscription Number 3, which is also called the Inscription of Nakhon Chum, made in 1357 AD, mentioned that a sculpture of the Buddha’s footprint made by King Maha Dharmaraja Li Thai of Sukhothai was placed at Si Satchanalai. The Thai word "Phra Bat" means the Buddha’s footprint. Certain scholars believe this temple once housed the Buddha’s footprint, now kept at Wat Choeng Khiri.
