El condado de Vukovar-Sirmia es el condando más al este de toda Croacia. Incluye la parte oeste de Sirmia y la cuenca del bajo Sava. Su centro es Vukovar; otras ciudades de importancia son Vinkovci, Županja, Ilok y Otok.El área de Vukovar ha estado habitada desde los tiempos del Neolítico. Hay numerosos restos arqueológicos, algunos entre los más significativos de Europa. Vukovar es célebre por su arquitectura del siglo XVIII y sus caracaterísticos pórticos y edificios posteriores de líneas historicistas. Durante las Guerras Yugoslavas la ciudad fue sometida a un terrible asedio por las fuerzas paramilitares serbias y destruida en su práctica totalidad.
