The tradition states that Empress Maria Theresa had a bridge built over the Lesse following an incident in which she was the victim when she tried to cross the river on horseback. The reality is, as is often the case with 'real' history, quite different. For the four-arched bridge between Maisin and Transinne was built under the reign of Albrecht and Isabella, to facilitate the passage of the old and 'only true' road from Bouillon to Liège.
