Bernissart

Since there are likely still many fossils buried underground here in Bernissart, a man named Pierre Capront from nearby Stambruges came up with the idea of building an underground amusement park. Visitors would be able to view the chalk fossils in small carts. He established a collective called "Recherche des Iguanodons" to raise funds. However, both the government and the local residents responded lukewarmly: the latter feared collapses if iguanodons were to be excavated again. Sponsorship did not materialize, and the plan died a quiet death.
