Katteneie and Schalieveld

This anchorage is located on the territory of the municipalities of Destelbergen and Laarne. The southeast corner of the Dam Valley (which is cut off from the rest by the motorways) lies in the demarcation. A swampy strip shows the former location of the Scheldt. The Mostbeek now runs in this strip and there are many peat pits. On the wet soils to the northwest of it there is a forest called the 'Houw'. To the south of the Dam Valley lies the cultural landscape around the historic farms of Katteneie and Schalieveld. This area is intersected by two streams, the Maanbeek and Kolkbeek. In the stream valleys there are many pollard trees. On the higher part between the valleys there is arable land. Here and there is a small wooded area, which consists mainly of tall wood.
