You undoubtedly already encountered one on the route; Bunkers. These are all part of the hollandlinie or Hollandstellung; from the Zwin to Antwerp on the Kempen line. The Germans built it during World War 1 out of distrust of the Dutch. So what does this have to do with natural heritage? The bunkers have been embedded in the landscape for so long that they give it a certain value, just look at the photos. Certain animals also enjoy their presence. For bats, these are ideal places to hibernate.
